Ribbon of Light - Kings College Hospital NHS Trust

'Ribbon of Light' was commissioned by Kings College Hospital NHS Trust in London for their new maternity wing. The concept was to create a centre piece light sculpture in the five story atrium. Designed to soften the architecture Ribbon of Light wraps round the corner of the central lift shaft creating a ribbon of gentle, colour changing patterns of light. Ribbon of Light was completed in 2002. The sculpture is 13 metre high and made of fibre-optics and mirror stainless steel. The colours of the fibre-optics are in the range of blues, aquamarines and white and are inspired by the changing patterns of light of sun reflected between the sky and sea.
